top 10 bad-ass bitches

i present to you the women i aspire to be like.  the title says it all - these are the girls who have influenced my music, fashion, attitude and who i think are just the coolest people ever.  i'm aware that i sound like a complete geek.  i bow to these ladies...

1) Karen O

the absolute epitome of cool.  her new york drawl, her unbridled screams, her fashion sense *drool*.  i love her.

2) Imelda May

this dublin lady has attitude and charm by the bucketload, and has some set of lungs on her too!  what i would give to have a voice like hers... i love her kick-ass rockabilly style, her flawless makeup and her perfect hair.

3) Junko Mizuno

the kookiest, most twisted of my top ten i reckon - my favourite illustrator.  she combines my love of all things japanese and cutesie with a more dark and sinister side.  love love love her drawings.

4) Roisin Murphy

another irish cailin - we have to represent!  what i love about ms murphy is her fearless attitude to fashion - her crazy get-ups were around long before lady gaga (who i love, don't get me wrong), and her music.  so the whole package really!

5) Nina Simone

one of my all-time favourite singers.  i think her music has such a force behind it and she is a major inspiration, both as a powerful woman and through her action in the civil rights movement.  she is a reminder that it is important to be socially aware of what's going on in the world and to be proactive.

6) Ana Matronic

i love her camp, kitschy style, her tattoo, her hair... i could go on.  the sassy, sexy energy she oozes is what i adore about this girl.  fabulous.

7) Patsy Cline

walkin' after midnight was my introduction to patsy cline, and in some way my introduction into the rockabilly genre which i now love dearly.  for her generation i think patsy cline was spunky and a strong female figure, a role model for many.

8) Kimya Dawson

the reason i love kimya is because she is a ball of contradictions, and challenges what you expect.  her sweet childish voice dreams up images of a young blonde girly girl - when in fact she is a pierced, tattooed punky-looking woman, singing about getting fucked-up on drink and pills.

9) Florence Welch

this girl is an ethereal breath of fresh air into a music scene that is saturated with skinny jeans and leather jackets.  i love her kate bush-esque, haunting voice and her almost victorian sense of style, all floor-length dresses, velvet and feathers.  i still think she's cool anyway!

10) Amanda Palmer

the ultimate in screw-you attitude, from her elaborate eyebrows to the unshaven armpits - you have to admire her balls!  she's a reminder that you don't have to be conventionally pretty to be beautiful, you don't have to be acceptable to be adored.

hope you have enjoyed my little list (i do love lists..), and any thoughts you have i'd love to hear them!
